– INTERCULTURAL RELATIONSHIPS

When differences show up in everyday life

Intercultural relationships are as varied as the people in them. But some themes come up again and again in counselling. It is not just about different nationalities. Language, family influences, cultural background and different ideas about partnership can all shape how culture shows up in a relationship. That is not always obvious at first.

FAMILY & BELONGING

Parenting and religion

Closeness to family of origin

Where is home for us, really?

EVERYDAY LIFE & DECISIONS

Roles and responsibility

Power, money and dependence

Who has had to adapt more?

CLOSENESS & CONNECTION

Communication and misunderstandings

Closeness, distance and intimacy

Why does something sound normal to me and hurtful to you?

– ORIENTATION

On your own or together?

Start on your own

Your partner isn’t ready yet, or you want to work out where you stand first. Many people start counselling on their own. You can still work on your relationship this way and better understand where you have influence. Sometimes this later becomes couples counselling.

Start together

You want to understand what is happening between you and find a different way of dealing with it. In couples counselling, we look at your relationship dynamic and at the patterns that keep repeating.

– HOW I WORK

Differentiation-based. Clear. Without taking sides.

My approach is differentiation-based. The focus is not on the perfect communication technique. It is about recognising recurring patterns, taking responsibility for your part and remaining clear about where you stand, even under pressure. I do not take sides or try to save a relationship at any cost. What matters is understanding what is happening right now and what kind of change can actually last.

– TESTIMONIALS

What clients say

“Elisabeth guided us with precise but empathetic questions, helped us to discover negative and positive patterns and repeatedly ensured us about the many, many good things we have. Most importantly: she never took sides and always stayed engaged but neutral.”

SUSANNE + CHRISTIAN M.
“Both my husband and I felt seen and heard, understood and valued. She easily made us feel comfortable to open up.”

CAMILLA O.
“We were worried about revealing intimate details about our married life to a stranger. But Elisabeth quickly proved that there was nothing to worry about.”
