Your life is turned upside down and you must adapt to the new circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>You are angry and ask yourself what you are doing wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>You desperately try to restore “normality” by any means necessary.<\/span><\/p>\n –<\/span>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 <\/span>Ultimately, the situation does NOT change.<\/span><\/p>\n A scholarship in England, a house in the country, three children and a fixed monthly income – that was my plan\ud83d\ude09. Many things turned out differently than expected: I live in a big city and left my secure job. My grade point average was too poor for England (but I learnt Spanish fluently and I think that’s cool) and I live separately from the father of my children.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n What am I trying to tell you?\u00a0 I’m not perfect – and I don’t know any better than you do. Mistakes and flaws are part of being human. Things are not perfect. But that doesn’t mean that anything is “wrong”. Unpleasant feelings are pretty much the most normal thing in life. But nobody likes to talk about them.<\/span><\/p>\n The truth is: <\/span>like you, I am a person whose life is sometimes upside down. I had my semester abroad in Santiago de Compostela in the bag. I thought that I would somehow manage with my knowledge of English. No way.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n My first words in Spanish were “rental agreement”, “deposit” and “heating”.<\/span><\/p>\n After a day of desperate attempts to get by, it slowly dawned on me: without Spanish, I have no chance here.\u00a0 I had no idea how I was going to manage this situation, I was completely desperate. So back home? I couldn’t get any further without support. My goal was very clear: I wanted to be able to communicate as quickly as possible so that I could stand on my own two feet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n That took a lot of energy out of me.
